China censors Pirates

In their continuing censorship of all that is good (or all that is anything, for that matter), the Chinese have edited out parts of Pirates of The Caribbean: At World’s End with Chow Yun-fat because…well I can’t think of any reason besides them being racist against Asians, which is absurd. For some reason they decided he didn’t deserve to be in the movie:
According to local media, more than half of the scenes featuring Chow as a Singapore pirate, have been cut, including his recitation of a poem in Cantonese.
A spokesman for Disney said auds would see a Chinese version of the movie and there had been cuts, without elaborating.
China Film initially said it had made no cuts, then declined to comment on a Beijing News report that it had cut scenes involving too much violence and horror.
The worst is yet to come. As if the movie wasn’t confusing enough already, the edits supposedly make it even more difficult to follow. Do they actually think they’re doing a service here?

I’m Chinese and there was nothing offensive about his scenes. Maybe the China people are offended that he said Singapore instead of China!

Maybe they were cut out by the government to make it look like only Westerners are pirates, and those good ol’ Eastern folk wouldn’t dare do a thing like that. But then, they’d have to cut out that Japanese woman. No wait, the Chinese hate the Japanese. That works.

Here’s the $64,000 question — will cutting parts out of this movie make it even more confusing, or will it actually make it a better movie? Since the first two hours of this movie consists of people sailing, talking, sailing, and talking, I suspect the latter.

Brandon, that’s not confusing at all. They wanted more money.

so the chinese are racist against chinese … what is the world coming to?!?
although, i don’t think that cutting those scenes would make the movie more confusing because it would cut out that elizabeth-being-confused-as-calypso aspect, which is possibly one of the only times i was confused.
maybe they were upset that he died first. and duh, it was made to segue into pirates 4, the return of captain jack sparrow.
